About Our Instructors
Hanshi Kevin Huunjin
Cullen

The Academy exists under the leadership of Hanshi Kevin "Huunjin" Cullen.. He has been involved in the
Goju Karate since 1973. Mr. Cullen was a member of N. Gosei
Yamaguchi's organization for 13 years and traveled to the Castro Hombu to take part in 1 and 2 week
long intensive gasshukus with and received his black belt in Goju from
Gosei Yamaguchi
(Son of the Cat Gogen). He also trained
for 13 years with Motoo
Yamakura, past all Japan kumite champion. Mr. Cullen has
aided his training by participated in seminar with many Naha and
Shuri Te masters over the decade including Hidetaka Nishiyama,
Taika Oyata, George Alexander in Naha-Te White Crane Kempo and many more.
Hanshi Cullen holds a 10th Dan in Ateru Goju and black belts in the
following styles: Judo, Jujitsu, and Shurite Kempo. Mr. Cullen
received his Degree in Japanese Language from the University of
Findlay, Ohio in 1995 and trained, worked and lived in Japan in
the past. He earned a Masters in Business in 2000.
Cullen is a featured instructor on the Martial Oceans
shipboard seminar series and is the ONLY traditional karate expert
invited to teach seminars yearly at the world famous Arnold Sports Festival
in Columbus, Ohio. He is the only instructor from Ohio who
regularly instructs at the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Honors, is a
sought after public
speaker and is a charter member of the Mondo Silente' stealth deep diving
team with Hanshi George Alexander.
Hanshi Cullen's students have won the US Open, ISKA national
titles, Canadian National Goju Championships, Gold Medals at the
Arnold Sports Festival and have fought in various UFC events.
Renshi Rhett Butler

Renshi Butler is a 4th degree black belt and has
been a student of Hanshi Cullen's over 22 years. He is a very
dedicated student and instructor of Goju Ryu and teaches the
Karate Kids as well as Adult classes.
Sensei Jim Zellner

Sensei Zellner holds his Shodan (1st degree black belt) and
has been training with Hanshi Cullen off and on since 1992. He is
a traditional Goju practitioner and is dedicated to brining out
the best in our karate kid students. He will be testing for
his Nidan in January.
Sensei Zellner has a bachelor degree in marketing and also
some graduate business classes. He is the V.P. of marketing for
the Findlay Publishing Company.

Michael Hindell

Sensei Hindell holds his Shodan (1st degree black belt) and
has been training directly under Hanshi Cullen for 5+ years. He is
a traditional Goju practitioner and assists the instruction of our
Tiny Tigers and Karate Kids classes. He will be testing for his
Nidan at the 2012 summer camp.
Michael is an Eagle Scout, a Fire Fighter as well as performs
on a worship team in a local Christian church. He is well thought
of by our karate kids and is focused on making each and every one
of them the best they can be.

Andy Long

Sensei Long is a black belt instructor who brings a wealth of
experience to the Academy. In addition to receiving his black belt
from Hanshi Cullen he also holds a black belt in Shaolin Kempo and
has past experience as a professional full contact kick boxer. His
no nonsense approach to teaching class keeps the adult students on
their toes and in great shape.
Sensei Long is a licensed and bonded commercial/industrial
electrician and is also owner of the Padrones Pizza parlor in BG.

Saige
Warren -Jr. Shodan

Saige Warren is an extremely dedicated student with physical
and mental capabilities far beyond his years. He has been with
Hanshi Cullen since the age of 4 at which age he told Hanshi that
he wanted to get his black belt and teach classes at Hanshi's
school. 5 years of hard training and two gold medals at the Arnold
Sports Festival in Columbus he is doing just that.
Saige helps Hanshi Cullen and Sensei Hindell teach the tiny
tigers class as well as the Karate Kid beginner to intermediate
classes four days a week. He also participates in the Karate Kid
advanced classes as a student. Saige is a prime example of what
time and dedication can do to better the quality of your life.

Renshi James Kindle

Sensei Kindle began his training some twenty five years ago
when Mr. Cullen was still teaching at the old Fremont Goju Ryu. He
is a 5th Degree black belt and Renshi. The big man is a very dedicated student of
the art of Goju and is an enthusiastic instructor. Classes are held at Pontifex
on State St. in Fremont OH on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Renshi Mark Robinson

6th Degree Black Belt and Goju-Ryu Renshi as well as Combat Specialist – Senior
Software Programmer for Calphalon.
Mark Robinson has been a student of Goju for over 19 years and has taught many seminars on the
combat aspects of no-nonsense Goju technique application. He carries
A Menkyo Kaiden as well as Renshi teaching credentials (Senior Expert). Mark Robinson has always been a hard core warrior and a thoughtful sensei and is
in the process of securing a facility and opening an Ateru Goju
school in the greater Atlanta area. We wish him much success. He
will occasionally teach from time to time when he stops by to
visit Shihan.

Renshi Larr Etzler

Sensei Etzler holds a 4th Degree Black Belt with MENKYO KAIDEN
AND Renshi Teaching
Credentials in Ateru Goju Ryu. Although Mr. Etzler is currently
establishing a dojo in Pennsylvania, he remains on staff and
instructs often while visiting the Findlay area. He is well versed in Goju, Ju Jitsu, Yogalates, Self Defense and has worked with Grandmaster Cullen one on one for over ten years.
He is great with both adults and kids, is a family man.
Although Renshi Larr has moved to Pennsylvania to open an Academy
there, he is still remains part of our staff and teaches when he
is in the Findlay, Ohio area.
